A single-herb liquid extract of dried rhizome of Alisma orientale, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Ze xie grows standing in water — in paddy margins, ditches and shallow ponds across East Asia — with a rosette of long-stalked oval leaves held above the surface and a tall airy candelabra of small white three-petalled flowers. The part used is the corm, a rounded starchy tuber buried in the mud, dug in winter after the leaves die back, trimmed of its roots and dried. It is cultivated in flooded fields in Fujian and Sichuan.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Ze Xie is a diuretic herb: take it with plenty of liquid, and do not use it if you have impaired kidney or heart function with fluid retention. Do not use it for long continuous periods. Not for use in pregnancy. It may add to the effect of diuretic and blood-pressure medicines and may lower blood sugar.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
